Book Fair in Astoria, Queens

New York - The II  Annual Multilingual Book Fair on Astoria, NY will be held on Friday, October 5th, 2007, and Saturday, October 6th, 2007 at St Demetrios Greek American School  at 30 03 30 Drive,  in Astoria, Queens. The book fair will open at 4pm on Friday and will close at 9:00 p.m. On Saturday will be open at 9:00 am and will be close at 6:00 pm.

This cultural event is designed to promote literacy and literary endeavor on Queens, New York. It is also an opportunity for authors to encourage our youth and dialogue with the community.

Acclaimed authors, Adriana Aristizabal, David Valentine Bernard, Sevasti Boutos, Jennifer Gabrielle Edwards,  Erin Gruwell, Dean Kostos, JA Figueroa, Allison Hubbs, Edna Iturralde, Nancy Mercado, Myrna Nieves, Michelle Herrera Mulligan, Aracelly Tinajero, JLove and Shanxing Wang will be among the many noted.

African American, Asiatic, Greeks and Hispanic authors available for book-signing. There will also be panel discussions, readings, workshops, "open mike" sessions, multi-cultural music and dance, and a variety of merchandise and book vendors.

For the young people, a Children's Pavilion is set-aside for children's book authors, like Karla Florez, Ann Miller, Nick Katsoris readings, a face painter, storytellers and other fun activities. Admission to the book fair is free.

A documentary –Shakira: The Barefoot Girl- produced by Carlos Vanegas, the first manager of top singer Shakira: will be presented on October 6, 2007. Is a documentary about the story of a little girl who in spite of difficulties overtook her dreams.  It's a video of the life and work of Shakira, the start of her career (The Beginning).  A documental analysis of the most important Latin American figure of our times in the music industry, as an economical, cultural, and social phenomenon. 

The New York Book Fair, established in 2005 by journalist Jacqueline Donado, has been held annually, in Astoria, Queens. Due to the Book Fair's success and Mrs. Donado continued efforts to bridge the literary world and urban communities, the event have established venues across the city and the country.
